The “Riviera of the Midwest,” St. Joseph, has been recognized as one of the best places to live in the country.

The determination was made by the website 24/7 Wall Street, which ranked the city at number 23 of the 50 Best Places to Live in the U.S. To make the rankings, the website looked at four different categories: affordability, economy, quality of life and community.

“Area residents have access to a far greater than typical concentration of bars, restaurants, recreation centers, and museums,” 24/7 Wall Street noted in its review. “The area’s high quality of life is further supported by the relative scarcity of property and violent crimes and a healthy job market.”

Also pointed out were low unemployment rates and affordable property values.

During the 2010 Census, the population of St. Joseph was listed at 8,365 people. Traverse City was ranked at 48, the only other city in Michigan to be listed.
