Cass County will hold a Household Hazardous Waste and Used Passenger Tire Collection event on April 4, 2026. The event, organized by the Cass County Board of Commissioners, is scheduled to take place at the Cass County Road Commission, located at 340 N. O’Keefe St., Cassopolis. This year’s collection will be held on a Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Residents with proof of Cass County residency can bring used tires from cars and pickup trucks as well as various types of solid waste materials including chemicals and electronics for free disposal. There is no charge for dropping off tires, and the road commission will accept them until 6 p.m., or until two trailers are full. Semi- or tractor tires will not be accepted.

Household hazardous waste may be dropped off up to a limit of 300 pounds per vehicle at no cost; any amount above this limit will incur a fee of $1.74 per pound. Electronics, small appliances, metal items, and steel objects can also be disposed of without charge.

Accepted items include aerosols, batteries, carpet cleaners, bleach, smoke detectors, gas mixes, antifreeze, adhesives, artist paints, fertilizers, insecticides, disposable propane cylinders (less than 20 pounds), mercury-containing devices like thermostats and thermometers, among others.

Certain items are not permitted at the event. These include major appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, fireworks, used motor oil, fire extinguishers, ammunition, biohazards and propane tanks larger than 20 pounds.

Flags collected during the event will be given to a local VFW post for proper disposal.

Organizers remind residents that latex paint is not considered hazardous waste and should be allowed to dry out before being discarded with regular trash.

No appointment is needed to participate in either collection event.
