Senator John Damoose joined Governor Gretchen Whitmer, local first responders, and Cheboygan County officials on April 16 to update residents about the Cheboygan Dam and Lock Complex, potential flooding risks, and emergency evacuation procedures.
The press conference addressed concerns for communities along the river near the dam. Officials said these areas are currently in the yellow “Set” stage of the “Ready, Set, Go” evacuation plan. This means an evacuation is likely and residents should be prepared to leave quickly if conditions worsen.
Damoose represents Michigan’s 37th Senate District, which includes Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet, Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties as well as parts of Mackinac and Chippewa counties according to the official website.
