State Sen. Kim LaSata (R-Bainbridge Township) posted on her Facebook page that Jan. 8 was the first day of the 2020 legislative session.
In her post, LaSata wrote that “According to the state Constitution, legislative session begins on the ‘second Wednesday of January each year.’” She also wrote that “In addition to session, I have two committee meetings today: Insurance & Banking and Health Policy & Human Services.”
According to her biography on her official website, LaSata represents the 21st Senate District, which includes southwestern Michigan. She serves as the chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Universities and Community Colleges.
Before public service, LaSata was a teacher in the Lake Michigan Catholic School system. In 2015, LaSata was awarded Teacher of the Year. She also served in the state House of Representatives between 2017-2018 before being elected a state senator.
LaSata was elected in 2018.
