City of St. Joseph issued the following announcement.
As of mid-afternoon Friday, the Clerk’s Office had issued 3,056 Absent Voter ballots, and 2,150 of those ballots have been returned. Just more than 70% of issued ballots have been returned, with 10 days to go before Election Day.
If you remember the previous Friday afternoon update, 2,906 AV ballots had been issued and 1,458 had been returned, so we have sent out an additional 150 ballots and received 692 voted ballots over the course of the week.
For comparative purposes, in the 2016 Presidential election there were 4,517 ballots cast, 3,269 in person and 1,248 AV ballots. Remember, in 2016 Michigan law was different; this is the first Presidential election where all voters may obtain Absent Voter ballots without a qualifying reason.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us at Clerk@sjcity.com or phone 269-983-6325; we are in the office 8-4 Monday-Friday. In addition, the Clerk’s Office will be open Saturday, October 31, from 8am – 4pm.
We are also seeing people beginning to use the new curbside drop box located on the alley east of City Hall, near the parking lot. The flyer describing the curbside drop box and location is attached again. We hope this is more convenient for many people to use since it is not necessary to park and get out of your vehicle. There is also a similar drop box in front of City Hall along Broad Street for walk-up traffic (please do not confuse our drop box with the nearby US Post Office blue mailbox!) and a smaller drop box inside the front entryway.
