Lawrence Public Schools Education: 419 students were enrolled in schools in 2022-23 school year

There were 419 students enrolled in Lawrence Public Schools in the 2022-23 school year, 8.5% less than the previous year, according to the Michigan Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 54.7% of them were boys, and 45.3% were girls.

Data also shows that most of the students were white, representing 56.8% of the Lawrence Public Schools total enrollment.

Lawrence Public Schools covers two schools within Van Buren County with its main office in Lawrence. Among them, Lawrence Junior-Senior High School recorded the highest enrollment of 212 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Overall student enrollment in Michigan remains below pre-pandemic levels, white students experiencing the largest decline at 6.5%.

Academic performance has also suffered, with the state's average NAEP score dropping by 6.5 points and ethnic achievement gaps widening. Black and Hispanic students' average math proficiency dropped by 7% in 2022, to 13.5% and 28.2%, respectively.
