Enrollment at South Haven Public Schools decreased by 1.1% compared to previous school year

There were 1,798 students enrolled in South Haven Public Schools in the 2022-23 school year, 1.1% less than the previous year, according to the Michigan Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 50.3% of them were boys, and 49.7% were girls.

Data also shows that most of the students were white, representing 60.7% of the South Haven Public Schools total enrollment.

South Haven Public Schools covers six schools within Van Buren County with its main office in South Haven. Among them, South Haven High School recorded the highest enrollment of 569 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Overall student enrollment in Michigan remains below pre-pandemic levels, white students experiencing the largest decline at 6.5%.

Academic performance has also suffered, with the state's average NAEP score dropping by 6.5 points and ethnic achievement gaps widening. Black and Hispanic students' average math proficiency dropped by 7% in 2022, to 13.5% and 28.2%, respectively.
