Senator Aric Nesbitt, the Senate Republican Leader, expressed his enthusiasm for the reopening of the Palisades Nuclear Generating Station in southwest Michigan. He emphasized the positive impact this decision will have on the region, stating, "Palisades coming back online is a big win for southwest Michigan as it means more jobs and more reliable, affordable power for the people of this state."
Nesbitt also highlighted the importance of Palisades in providing stable energy amidst concerns about future energy mandates. He pointed out, "With the dark shadow of Gov. Whitmer’s California-style Green New Deal signaling higher costs and a less reliable energy grid for our state’s future, Michigan families need dependable power sources like Palisades to help alleviate energy prices and provide electricity when the sun doesn’t shine and the wind doesn’t blow."
Furthermore, Nesbitt commended the decision to reopen the nuclear power plant in response to potential energy shortfalls resulting from recent legislative actions. He stated, "I am happy to see the governor and her peers acknowledging the need to reopen this vital nuclear power plant as we all brace for the predictable shortfalls of the extreme energy agenda forced through the Legislature by the Democrat majority last year."
