Brad Paquette, a Michigan State Representative, posted a series of tweets in late July 2025 criticizing recommendations and positions from medical professionals and academics regarding public health policies and climate change.
On July 28, 2025, Paquette commented on recent guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) about vaccine exemptions for schoolchildren in Michigan. He wrote, "The American Academy of Pediatrics wants to remove vaccine exemptions for children to attend school in Michigan. Coupling this with their continued support for castrating children in the name of care, AAP recommendations lose all value. Another organization run by $pharma$."
Two days later, on July 30, 2025, Paquette addressed claims related to professors at Western Michigan University. He stated, "Professors at @WesternMichU make the case for ticks biting more people to contract Alpha-Gal Syndrome so that they become allergic to meat... to save the world from climate change. Later that same day, he followed up with another tweet referencing a specific faculty member: "WMU professor arguing for the spread of tickbourne illness to make victims allergic to meat claims to be nonbinary and simultaneously bisexual. Professor Hereth's first thing 'about they/them' is sexual and nonsensical. Teachers need to STOP flaunting sexual identities."
The AAP has previously recommended removing nonmedical vaccine exemptions as part of its advocacy for increasing vaccination rates among children attending schools across several states. These efforts are intended to prevent outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases.
