A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Van Buren County Election Division on February 5, 2025. The request, made by St. Joe-Benton Harbor News, sought comprehensive details about the candidates running in the upcoming election.

The FOIA request specifically asked for a list of all candidates participating in the forthcoming election. This list is expected to include each candidate's first, middle, and last names. Additionally, it should detail the office for which they are running and its jurisdiction. The party affiliation of each candidate was also requested.
