BERRIEN COUNTY TAX ASSESSOR: Marine Deputies Applications

Berrien County Tax Assessor issued the following announcement.

The deadline to apply for Marine Deputies during the 2020 boating season is February 14, 2020. All applications must be received in Personnel or post marked by February 14, 2020.

Interviews and swim tests are scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2020.

This is a temporary/seasonal position. New deputies will begin training on the weekends in April. Patrols will begin with the Memorial Day holiday and end with the Labor Day holiday.

Applications (PDF) can be downloaded from the Berrien County website, or picked up from the County Administration Personnel Office. All  applications must be returned to Personnel.

REQUIREMENTS

Must be 18 years of age and out of high school at least one year prior to the start of the boating season. A Diploma or GED is required. Must be able to pass a complete background check, and swim test. Able to work well with others. Prior boating knowledge and a mechanical aptitude, computer skills along with written and verbal communication skills desired.

HOURS

Hours are based on a 40-hour work week, and is weather dependent.  Deputies will be required to work weekends with holidays mandatory.

DUTIES

Under the supervision of the Marine Lieutenant and/or Marine Sergeant, responsibilities include enforcement of the Marine Safety Act on Lake Michigan as well as the many inland lakes and rivers within Berrien County.  Deputies will be responsible for proper maintenance on boats, engines, trailers and vehicles, and caring for all County issued gear and equipment.

PAY

  • $11.00/hour
