State Sen. Kim LaSata (R-Bainbridge Township) and Christine Vanlandingham, CEO of Region IV Area Agency on Aging, discussed long-term care issues at LaSata's Lansing office on Feb. 12.

“We caught up on legislation that seeks to help relatives raising children who are not their own navigate local resources and supports available to them, as well as issues concerning long-term care for our seniors,” LaSata posted to her Facebook page.

The agency is a nonprofit organization that the state has designated to receive federal funding to manage government contracts that provide planning and development services in southwest Michigan. The organization advocates for and identifies the needs of the elderly and disabled population primarily in Berrien, Cass and Van Buren counties.

The senator posted in February that she has been meeting with organizations focused on health and eldercare initiatives.

On Valentine’s Day, she talked with Heather Holloway, James Ivey and Cindy Grey of the Disability Network Southwest Michigan.

“We are fortunate they are part of our SWMI [Southwest Michigan] community, as they have a passion to help others that truly comes from the heart,” she posted about the meeting.

In a Feb. 11 update, she met with representatives from LOGAN Autism Services in Benton Harbor to discuss the organization’s services provided to help their participants succeed.
