CITY OF SOUTH HAVEN: Late Fees and Shutoffs Suspended of Utility Services During State of Emergency

Suspend

City of South Haven issued the following announcement on April 16.

During the April 13, 2020 City Council meeting, council approved Resolution 2020-18 which authorizes the continued basic operations of the City and suspends late fees and shutoffs of electric service during the current State of Emergency.

During the April 15, 2020 South Haven Area Water & Sewer Authority (SHAWSA) meeting, the board approved Resolution 2020-02 which authorizes the continued basic operations of the water & sewer system and suspends late fees and shutoffs of water & sewer services during the current State of Emergency.

The approved resolutions will temporarily suspend the fees associated with late payments for the City’s and SHAWSA’s various utility customers until the State of Michigan’s health crisis concludes.

The resolution also seeks to memorialize the City’s and SHAWSA’s practice of suspending electric service shut-offs, due to non-payment, until the crisis has concluded.

The resolution intends to provide the allowances to coincide with Governor Whitmer’s Executive Order 2020-11. Contact: Bill Hunter, Department of Public Works Director, bhunter@south-haven.com; 269- 637-0737.
