Opportunities are available for volunteers to help with the local COVID-19 crisis.
"With still more than a week left in the Stay Home, Stay Safe Executive Order in Michigan, many Berrien County residents are looking for ways to help that extend beyond social distancing and washing hands," the Berrien County Health Department said in a statement. "There are plenty of opportunities right here in Berrien County for people to find a way to volunteer or give back."
According to the statement, the Berrien Community Foundation and United Way of Michigan are teaming up to help state officials meet needs in the area. The websites are including resources and opportunities for citizens to get involved and the opportunities are posted on the United Way of Southwest Michigan website.
On the United Way website, citizens can access several links that lead to local updated data regarding the coronavirus crisis. The sources come from many local agencies that are seeking volunteers as the need for help arises.
The United Way is also collecting personal protective equipment and hygiene items for shelters and long-term care facilities. Those items can be dropped off at its office at 2015 Lakeview Ave., St. Joseph from 3-5 p.m. on Mondays and 10 a.m. to noon on Fridays.
The Southwest Michigan Cares Fund is also accepting monetary donations for response and recovery efforts. The fund is coordinated by the Berrien Community Foundation and online donations are possible.
