St. Joseph Charter Township issued the following announcement on May 4.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced a "Futures for Frontliners" program to provide a tuition-free pathway to college or a technical certificate to essential workers, including township firefighters, police and first responders, as well as public works employees, who don't have a college degree. The program--the first of its kinds in the nation--would ensure tuition-free college opportunities and give these dedicated Michiganders an opportunity to earn a technical certificate, associate's degree or bachelor's degree. Inspired by the federal government's support of soldiers returning from World War II by providing educational opportunities, the governor has indicated the program would be funded with federal dollars.
