The Western Michigan University Confucius Institute issued the following announcement.

To help reduce the spread of COVID-19, University Libraries is instituting changes in how and where to access resources and materials. The Swain Education Library in Sangren Hall will be closed for the 2020-21 academic year, while the Maybee Music and Dance Library, located in the Dalton Center, will close permanently.

The music and dance and education library collections will be relocated to Waldo Library this semester. WMU users may request materials from these collections online for pickup at Waldo Library or home delivery. The librarians and staff from Swain and Maybee have joined the team at Waldo Library and may be contacted by phone or email.

WMU users are encouraged to use library services and collections online or at Waldo Library, which now has both day and evening hours available.

The archives and regional history collections at the Zhang Legacy Collections Center will be available by appointment only. Appointments may be requested by emailing arch-collect@wmich.edu with the library patron's name, phone number and a list of materials needed from the collection.

The Swain Education Library space will be temporarily be used for the Solution Squad, a service hub that provides academic and technical support to students. The Maybee Music and Dance Library space will be utilized by the College of Fine Arts for other activities.

Waldo Library's lobby and first floor reopened to the campus community in August. The University Libraries' extended fall hours began on Sept. 2. Only WMU users may access Waldo Library at this time, and they must swipe their Bronco Cards to enter. Some areas of Waldo Library remain closed for security and safety. Additional spaces may reopen as conditions allow. Check for library updates and information before visiting Waldo Library.
