Michigan Sea Grant issued the following announcement on Nov. 18.
Manoomin, or wild rice, is already an important part of Anishinaabe tribal cultures and Great Lakes wetland ecosystems.
Now, a bill proposes to make it Michigan's state grain:
The House bill calls wild rice, known as Manoomin in the Ojibwe language, “a sacred and important component to many wetlands.’’
