Berrien County issued the following announcement on July 15.
Always pay attention to the flags at the beach. Even when the flags are green, it's always a good to know these rip current safety tips.
According to NOAA, if you're caught in a rip current:
1: Relax
2: Don't swim against the current.
3: Swim out of the current according to the image in this infographic, and then swim to shore.
4: If you can't escape, float or tread water.
5: If you need help, yell or wave for assistance.
