PSC Accreditation

Announcement

City of Portage issued the following announcement on Nov 17.

The Portage Senior Center announces its re-accreditation by the National Council on Aging’s National Institute of Senior Centers. First accredited in 1999, the Portage Senior Center is one of only two accredited senior centers in Michigan.

The National Institute of Senior Centers offers the nation's only senior center accreditation program. Accreditation provides official recognition that a senior center meets the nine standards of senior center operations. Completing the accreditation process demonstrates that the Portage Senior Center meets the highest national standards and is considered a model for other centers to follow.

“Successfully achieving accreditation status takes the work of many people both in the senior center and in the community,” said Christine Beatty, Chair, National Institute of Senior Centers Accreditation Board. “Your organization demonstrates outstanding leadership and commitment to quality programs and services.”

The Portage Senior Center provides an enhanced lifestyle of personal growth, health, friendship, and independence for adults aged 50 and over. As a new generation looks to redefine retirement, the Portage Senior Center is prepared to reflect a more empowered vision of aging. With the completion of the new Charles & Lynn Zhang Portage Community Senior Center in early 2022, the center will service the future demand for a higher level of programming, activities, and amenities.
