Berrien County issued the following announcement on Dec 30.
As the wind get stronger along with the coming winter weather, here is a quick reminder to stay off of the piers during hazardous conditions.
According to the NOAA, it only takes 6 inches of moving water to sweep you off of your feet.
Don't risk it! Don't go on the pier when there is any chance of any amount of water coming over the surface of the pier or during other hazardous conditions, such as when ice is present.
A safer option: enjoy watching the waves roll in, the view of the lighthouse, or the sunset from the Silver Beach WebCam at https://www.berriencounty.org/357/Beach-Cam.
