On Saturday, July 16, the North Berrien Historical Museum hosted Civil War Day. The community turned out in droves for this special open house. Enthusiastic visitors gathered to witness Betty Ann, a Civil War-era replica Parrott cannon, fire into the woods on the Museum’s property. Civil War author John Urschel gave two well-attended presentations. Letterpress printing and blacksmith demonstrations as well as kids’ activities such as quill writing and tin punching also had great participation.
The Museum would like to thank the Kentucky Volunteers Artillery for providing and firing the cannon, the City of Coloma for helping move the cannon, John Urschel, John LaPlante of Iron & Soul, reenactors Joshua & Frances Chamberlain and Abraham Lincoln, the Civil War Round Table of Southwest Michigan, the Friends of North Berrien History, all of our volunteers, and the community. This was truly an event to remember!
Please join us for our next installment of I Like My History With Coffee & Cream on the morning of Thursday, July 21 at 10:00 a.m. where the Civil War Round Table will join us for a casual morning history discussion.
