Would you like to be part of the City of Portage Lead & Copper Water Sampling Testing Program? The City of Portage is looking for residents interested in volunteering as an alternate for our tri-annual Lead & Copper Water Sampling Testing Program. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) requires municipalities to have a list of sites for possible water sample testing locations throughout the city. To qualify, your residence must have been built before the lead and copper rules were implemented in July 1988.
There are no detectable levels of lead in the City of Portage water system. Lead in drinking water is primarily from materials and components associated with service lines and home plumbing.
The next sampling will occur in 2023. If you are interested in participating as an alternate site, please email your information (name, address, telephone number) to PortageT&U@portagemi.gov.
